Anand Sahu's son, Arjun, falls in love with Parineeta. They are headed by Anand Sahu, an officer in the police. One day, a family from Muria arrives in Shukla. This creates a feeling of frustration between Parineeta and Bhanu Sahu. When Bhuvaneshwari gives birth to Parineeta, the doctor says that she has a feminine body and cries for a male child. Bhanu Sahu is married to Bhuvaneshwari, and his father-in-law lives with them. Shukla is ruled by a powerful man named Bhanu Sahu, the head of the local Muria and Hatigumma villages. She becomes the priestess at a Hindu temple, and is renamed Parineeta. Many years ago, Parineeta was born in Shukla as a peasant girl named Bhuvaneshwari. There are three villages: Shukla, Muria and Hatigumma. The story of the film is set in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The film won several awards at major international film festivals, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and four Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor for Shahrukh Khan, Best Music Director and Best Female Debut for Padukone, Best Performance in a Leading Role and Best Female Debut for Chopra, and Best Supporting Actor for Kher. Parineeta was released in the United States on December 6, 2005. The film is an adaptation of the novella starring Shahrukh Khan as Sita, Deepika Padukone as Parineeta, Priyanka Chopra as Bhuvaneshwari and Anupam Kher as her father.
